Waterproof Basement from Outside?

Q. Can I waterproof my basement from the outside? I heard somewhere that exterior waterproofing is better because it stops the water before it even gets inside.


A: Exterior waterproofing is only part of the solution. This method can’t do anything to stop water from coming up through the floor and the sealants on the exterior walls are in no way permanent. You will need to add an interior waterproofing method as well to truly waterproof your basement.
