Basement Quick Fix?

Q. We need to do a quick fix on our basement so we can use it for an office. I’ve heard about waterproofing paneling systems and was wondering if these work? I know eventually we’ll have to treat our foundation issues, but we need this for office space right now.

A: I understand your predicament. But, if you don’t address this problem now, it not only won’t go away, it will become an even bigger problem. Are you willing to risk your home’s foundation while you put this repair off?

A waterproofing paneling system is not only temporary, but you run the risk of trapping water between the paneling and the concrete walls, speeding up the damage to your foundation.

A better solution is to find some other place in your home for a temporary office while you get the basement waterproofed. Also, do you really want to expose documents and office equipment to a damp basement?
